Natural Networks at Timeless Textiles Gallery

Meredith Woolnough Timeless Textiles exhibition 2016.jpg

My solo exhibition at Timeless Textiles finished up a week or so ago. It was lovely to show with this wonderful gallery again. I have exhibited with the gallery every few years since I moved to Newcastle and they have been a great support of me and my art practice. This time around the exhibition was in their new space next to the Lock up on Hunter St.

Here are a few shots of the show for those who missed it.... or those who want to relive it gain.

'Red Cabbage' by Meredith Woolnough, embroidery thread and pins on paper, 94 x 94cm

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love good food. If you want to get on my good side just send some home cooked goodness my way and I will be your friend for life. So when Anne Kempton (director of Timeless Textiles gallery) asked me to be a part of an art exhibition that combined food and textile art I naturally jumped at the chance.

2014 Workshops

Workshop montage pic.png

People often ask me if I teach workshops and the answer is … Yes, yes I do - and I love doing it as well!

I have developed a fun two day workshop packed full of techniques such as resin embedding, freehand embroidery and of course my signature sculptural embroidery technique. I will be running the workshop twice this year in two great locations. Both are in NSW (sorry for those that are further out, I will get to you one day) and I am really looking forward to both workshops.

Embroidery and resin workshops at NCAC

Workshop montage - web.jpg

Since leaving my teaching job a few years ago I have been missing the classroom and when I was asked to run a few workshops through the fabulous Timeless Textiles gallery in Newcastle I jumped at the chance.

Ethereal Threads Opening Night

Last Thursday my solo exhibition Etherial Threads opened at Timeless Textiles gallery. I have been to several of the Timeless textiles openings and they are always delightful events with good food, wine and company to be had. Being my first show up here in Newcastle I didn't really know what to expect and I wasn't really sure if anyone would even turn up as my usual cohort of friends and followers are mostly based down in Sydney. But I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who came to the opening, many of which Anne (the gallery director)  had never seen before, meaning that this exhibition had brought new blood to Timeless Textiles. The exhibition has also coincidentally coincided with the galleries first birthday, so there was lots to celebrate on the night.

Just after the exhibition the blog Empress Wu Designs did a lovely review on my work and the exhibition. Check it out here.

Thank you to everyone who came to the opening or who has visited the exhibition, your interest in my work and support is what keeps me going.
