Contracts
A contract is required to formalise the fine art commission and to ensure both parties are respected.
The contract includes all details discussed, such as subject matter, size and medium of the artwork, price, due dates for payments etc.
Timeframe
Commissioned artworks usually take between 1 – 6 months to complete depending on the size of the piece and Meredith’s work schedule at the time.
Pricing
The price of the fine art commission is established and agreed upon in the initial conversation with the client.
The price will be based upon artwork size and complexity and will be consistent with other comparable works by Meredith at the time of sale. There are no extra charges for a commissioned artwork.
50% of the agreed purchase price (non-refundable down payment) is paid at the time of the commission contract.
The work on the commissioned artwork commences after this initial payment is made.
The remaining 50% is paid at completion and prior to handover of the commissioned artwork.

Delivery
For the sake of transparency, the cost of delivery and installation are separate from the fine art commission price.
If the client is based in the Sydney/Newcastle area Meredith may be able to hand deliver the artwork to you. Clients are also welcome to pick up their finished artworks from Meredith’s studio in Newcastle, NSW by appointment.
If hand delivery or pickup is not an option, arrangements will be made for the artwork to be professionally packed and shipped at the clients expense. Insurance to cover loss or damage in transit is also available.
Items delivered outside of Australia could be subject to import duties and taxes. These are charged at destination and are the responsibility of the individual receiving the goods. Please contact your local customs office for further details before ordering if you are concerned.
The commission process
In the initial discussion, usually via email or phone/Zoom, the particulars of the artwork to be commissioned will be determined (such as subject matter, size, colours, price, framing choices, required completion date etc.). If required, Meredith will sketch up some rough designs to help illustrate the discussion.
Once all of the particulars are determined a commission contract is created and exchanged, accompanied by an invoice for the down-payment. The commission will be started only after both the down-payment has been paid and the contract has been signed and returned.
Upon completion of the final artwork, digital images will be sent to the client for approval. Once approved, the artwork will be framed and the invoice for the final payment will be issued.
Following payment of the final invoice, the artwork will be delivered/shipped to the collector.
Do you always accept commission requests?
No. It is very important to me that you are satisfied with your artwork commission so if I feel that a commission idea is beyond my skill level, or if I feel that the idea is outside the realm of my normal subject matter or style I won’t take on the commission.
Can I commission an artwork similar to a past work?
Though all of my artworks are unique, I do repeat ideas and am happy to take inspiration from past works for commissions. CLICK HERE to view a comprehensive range of my past artworks.
Can I commission a less expensive, or scaled down version of an existing work?
I may be able to create a version of an existing piece to a smaller scale but the design will most likely have to be simplified or altered to accommodate the new sizing.
What happens if I don’t like the final artwork?
If you decide that you don’t like and do not want the finished artwork you have the right to refuse the work. In this case I retain the artwork and the non-refundable deposit.
