The inspiration for my new piece Coast Pennywort (hydrocotyle bonariensis) came from a plant I picked up on a walk around my local area. This plant, commonly known as Coast Pennywort or Kurnell's curse, is a weed in most parts of New South Wales but I have always loved the shape of it's fleshy leaves with their intricate internal vein patterns.
The natural world = constant inspiration
It's no surprise that most of my artworks are inspired by nature. I find the details, structures and surfaces of natural objects, animals and plants completely fascinating and I am an avid collector of natural treasures. Seashells, seed pods, interesting leaves, gum nuts, feathers and sea sponges ... these are just a few of the things that I collect and hoard in the studio to use as inspiration for future work.
Artwork of the week
My work has been chosen as 'artwork of the week' at Painters Gallery. The galleries Director Diego Acevedo has written some lovely things about my piece Leaf Skeleton (Hydrangea) and seems to have picked up on all that I hoped to accomplish in the piece. Nice to see that my work is being appreciated. See the review here.
