I am delighted to share with you the stories and amazing artworks created by some of my students who have participated in the Sculptural Embroidery online course. This post has been updated with new student testimonials over the years. Enjoy.
Meredith was one of the first students of the Sculptural Embroidery course and has since gone on to become a successful exhibiting artist with her beautiful Australian Native botanical embroidery art. Meredith was a complete novice in this style of embroidery when she enrolled in the course but she produced the most beautiful ‘Pink Gum Blossom’ project as her final project. Watch her video below to see her gum blossoms, her most recent work, and hear about her experience with the course.
Lorie was already very experienced in this style of embroidery before she took this course but had lost her passion for the process. Watch her video below to hear about her journey with the course and how she rediscovered her ‘joy’ for this embroidery technique.
Wendy was a complete beginner when she took this course and was worried that she would not be able to do this kind of embroidery. But she shouldn’t have worried because she created some gorgeous work in the course, including her adorable three-dimensional freestanding house that we all loved.
Regina works professionally with digitised embroidery machines but was looking for a more creative way to use embroidery. She took the skills and approach taught in the course and adapted it to her digitised embroidery skills with wonderful outcomes. I proudly own one of her beautiful Lemon sculptures. Watch Regina’s video below to hear about her experience with the course.
Samar is a mixed media artist who took the course so she could create contemporary embroidery elements to add to her existing artwork. We loved her innovative approaches to using the techniques to create Palestinian Tatreez motifs.
Anne was already experienced in using freehand machine embroidery on fabric before she took this course but had found working on water soluble fabric challenging. Watch the video below to see how this course helped her overcome those challenges and helped her develop new ways of creating texture and detail in her beautiful textile art. We loved watching her ‘Munchy Crunchy Lunch’ project develop in the course.
Denise is an experienced fibre artist who was looking to take her freehand machine embroidery skills the next level with this course. She created a range of beautiful sculptures during the program, the hot air balloon being my personal favourite.
Barbara is retired and likes to take courses in different crafts. She makes beautiful dolls and is looking at ways to incorporate her embroidery structures into her doll sculptures. Watch her video below to hear about her experience with the course and see some of the things beautiful she made.
Rebecca is a textile artist who does a lot of sewing and was looking to find new things to add to her textile art. We loved the lovely leaves she created in the course and look forward to seeing how she uses the Sculptural Embroidery techniques in her work in the future.
Tara signed up to this course after reading my book “Organic Embroidery’. She took the class because she wanted to learn more. I am delighted that the course reignited her creativity in many aspects of her life, not just her embroidery. Tara produced a beautiful collection of Dahlia sculptures for her final project which you can see in the background of her video below.
Penelope was an avid anti-sewer until she came across Meredith’s artworks and wanted to learn how it was done. She took the leap and enrolled in the Sculptural Embroidery course and loved the challenge of learning a totally brand-new skill. As someone who didn’t consider themselves creative, it was wonderful to see Penelope push herself and learn to enjoy working with a sewing machine.
Chris is an experienced sewer and wanted to do this course because she had been playing around with water soluble fabric for a while and wanted to know the correct way to go about it. This course helped her to create beautiful three dimensional mushroom and lichen sculptures as well as some embellishments for a quilt. Watch her video below to see her fabulous fungi sculptures and hear about her experience with the course.
After completing Meredith’s free course Shelly was convinced she wanted to take the full Sculptural Embroidery course, and she made some beautiful thoughtful pieces. As an instructor herself, it was great to hear that Shelly was impressed with the completeness and depth of the course. Watch her video to hear what she thought of the course.
Caroline is a quilter and took the Sculptural embroidery course to broaden her skills and learn how to add a more sculptural elements to her wall quilts. Watch her video below to hear about her experiences with the course and see the stunning pieces that Caroline created. Her grey crowned Crane was a class favourite.
Laurie had read Meredith’s book but wanted to learn more. She decided to take the Sculptural Embroidery course based on the testimonials of past students and loved the video lessons and the private community. We loved Laurie’s amazing leaves that she took to the next level with wire.
Jodi was somewhat experienced with the use of water soluble fabric before taking this course. In the video below she shares her experiences with the Sculptural Embroidery course as well as her beautiful final project inspired by stained glass windows.
Before taking the Sculptural Embroidery course Alison’s didn’t consider the things that she made ‘art’. But I am delighted to hear that she has is now much more comfortable and confident in making artworks. For her final project Alison found inspiration at the end of her hand and has created a really interesting series of works. Watch her video below to hear of her experiences with the course (complete with a cute cameo from her cat Tundra).
Dominique has a lot of experience with hand embroidery and took the Sculptural Embroidery course to learn a new skill and become more confident and adventurous on the sewing machine. Watch her video below to hear about her experience with the course and to see some of the beautiful pieces she created.
Karin discovered my work via my book ‘Organic Embroidery’ and took the course to learn how to do this kind of embroidery for herself. She made some beautiful autumn leaves as her final project focusing on colour blending. Watch her video to see her beautiful work.
Liz created some beautiful experimental pieces in this course. You can see a small image of her ‘pineapple’ inspired sculpture in the video below. This is an audio-only testimonial.
