Adding finishing touches in the studio to some pieces for 'Small Medium Large'
It's always lovely to have an exhibition in my hometown of Newcastle Australia so I am very excited to be involved in 'Small, Medium, Large', an exhibition curated by the Newcastle Gallery Collective. The unique thing about this show is that it is being held across four different galleries in Newcastle; C Studios, Nanshe,
Four Point Gallery and Newcastle Art Space. Expect a bit of a gallery crawl for the opening, which happens to fall on Valentines day - so make sure you come along and feel the love.
The NGC will be presenting their first collaborative exhibition across the four (4) galleries starting in February 2015. Twelve Newcastle Artists have been invited to participate in this inaugural exhibition, SMALL MEDIUM LARGE, nominated by each gallery representative and approved by the collective. Artist were chosen for their innovative art making approach, their consistent high quality artworks and their professional approach to their art practice. This exhibition is sure to be the start of an exciting ongoing collaboration between the four founding members.
For this show I have created 13 new works - including some of the tinniest framed pieces I have ever produced.
Ammonite, polyester thread and pins on paper, framed in a white shadow box
Coast Pennywort (Hydrocotyle bonariensis), polyester thread and pins on paper, framed in a white shadowbox
Golden Ginkgo Square, polyester thread and pins on paper, framed in a white shadowbox
Red Coral Square, polyester thread and pins on paper, framed in a white shadowbox
I felt that I needed to make something unique for the show to fit into the 'small' category and these tiny stitched treasures were the result. These little guys measure 20 x 20cm each and are the smallest (and most affordable) framed works I have ever created. Get in quick to grab your favourite!
