The embroidered art of Meredith Woolnough, a film by Flore Vallery-Radot
Late last year a wonderful opportunity came my way. Seemingly out of nowhere. The delightful @flore_vallery_radot contacted me on instagram and told me about her #30day30filmchallenge. This 30 day film challenge is exactly as it sounds; this amazing lady is posting a new short film that she has created every day this month. This project, as I am sure you can imagine, is a gargantuan job. And amidst the Christmas madness no less!
She casually asked if I would be available to be filmed for the project. Naturally I jumped at the chance, especially after watching a few of her beautiful, ethereal moving portraits of artists and makers (seriously go and check this lady out - she’s amazing: florevalleryradot.com)
So two days later, on a Saturday morning, Flore arrived cheerily at my studio after a 3.5 hour drive. We then spent the next 6 hours together chatting and filming.
It was fascinating to hear insights into her creative process as a filmmaker. Flore has such an amazing eye for detail and a deep passion for her craft. She made me feel so comfortable while we worked and I was so impressed by her highly creative use of the limited natural light in my studio (sorry for that extra challenge Flo). I was so excited to see the final short film after our highly creative day together.
Luckily I didn’t have to wait long, less than 48 hours and it was up in her feed! And she managed to fit a child’s birthday party, a dance concert and another film in to that time as well. Did I mention this lady is amazing!? I was absolutely blown away with what she produced. When I first watched this beautiful little film I’ll admit I got a bit misty. She has managed to capture so much of my craftsmanship with subtlety, sensitivity and beauty. Thank you Flo for a wonderfully inspiring day and for this amazing film which is a piece of art in itself.
I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my studio and working practice as much as I do.
